Renaissance Party Series: Tea with the Queen

This month, we’ve got our minds on Renaissance fair season. In the next few months, there will be a variety of Renfairs all across the country, but for those who don’t live in a town near one or others who can’t get enough Renaissance from just one season, we want to share with you some ideas on how to host a Renaissance-inspired party at home.

Today, we want to share with you party theme that is perfect for little girls – Tea with the Queen. Think tea party, but with a Renaissance flair! Invite all the guests to attend as a Renaissance princess. When they RSVP, you can encourage them to create their back story including their name and what land they come from.

For activities, the main event will be a tea party. You can hire a character actor to attend dressed as a Renaissance queen who will interact with the children like a real queen. If you want to save money, you can convince a friend to help out or even do it yourself! The character actor can tell folk stories and share facts about the time like what it’s like to live during the Renaissance period, what activities were popular or what it’s like to live in a castle. The children can all share something about their own character they’ve created like what their favorite activity is and what their town is like.

For the food, you can serve items that you would find at a traditional tea party. For example, scones with butter and jams, small kid-friendly sandwiches, fruit, and some cookies. For the teas, you can stick with fruit flavored teas which tend to be non-caffeinated. Most of these things can be purchased at a grocery store or made with very little effort so it would be pretty easy to orchestrate.

After the tea party, you can have some Renaissance-themed activities like a maypole dance, hopscotch, or ring toss. You can even have an arts and crafts station where the girls can make their own laurel (or flower crown). These activities can keep the kids occupied until it’s time to go home.

With these simple ideas, you can create a whimsical, Renaissance-themed party for your next event! Do you have any fun ideas to add? If so, share it with us by leaving a comment below!
