The season is changing, although here in Southern California it’s a bit hard to tell. On the other hand, everywhere else is experiencing cooler temperatures and changing foliage which means that fall is officially here. (Not to mention pumpkin spice everything all over town). Aside from the holidays, we love any opportunity to make memories with our loved ones and we’re sure that you do too. That’s why we’ve created a list of fun activities to do with your family in the next couple of months. Here’s what we’re looking forward to doing this fall and we hope that you’ll join us by doing one or more of these activities with your own family!

Apple Picking
We’re not sure about other parts of the country, but around this time in the LA area is a great time to visit an apple orchard. I visited an apple orchard some years ago in the San Bernardino area and it was a very outdoorsy experience. Not to mention apple pie! I mean, who doesn’t love apple pie? This all day event is sure to create some family memories this fall.

Visit a Pumpkin Patch
During Fall, pumpkin patches pop up virtually everywhere. With Halloween right around the corner, it’s often a tradition to go as a family and pick out the perfect pumpkin for decorating. Whether you’re carving a jack-o-lantern or making a pumpkin dish, this is one activity that anyone can do and everyone can enjoy. In fact, you can make it a game and try to bring home the biggest pumpkin, or the most bizarre looking pumpkin, (if you’re into that).

Bake
Yes, bake! Bake anything you want – a pie, a cake, cookies, the list goes on. What I love about baking in the fall is that the oven keeps your house warm and when that timer goes off you get a delicious treat. Baking is a great activity for families because it teaches your kids useful skills and involves math learning. Don’t worry about your kitchen getting messy, just enjoy the experience.

Collect Pinecones
Head on over to the park as a family and hunt for pinecones. Take in the beautiful autumn colors and the sounds of crunching leaves below your feet. Once you’ve collected the pinecones, you can turn them into home décor in a variety of ways.

Visit a Halloween-Themed Amusement Park
Living in LA puts us within driving distance to several major amusement parks and during this time, many of them host Halloween events. It’s always fun to see the spooky decorations up and it’s always a good time to experience something that’s out of the ordinary. Find the right amusement attraction for your family. If you have small kids, it’s better to take them to something age appropriate like Disney’s Halloween Haunt at Disneyland. If your kids are older, brave a haunted maze amusement like Knott’s Scary Farm.

Decorate for Halloween
Another fun fall family activity is decorating for Halloween. If you’re one of the many homes that welcomes trick-or-treaters on Halloween, then it’s always a good idea to decorate. It lets the trick-or-treaters know that you’re participating and is in some ways an unspoken invitation to the crowd. Decide together as a family a theme and shop together. Then put your plans to work and use teamwork to create the perfect haunted house.

We can’t wait to do these activities this Halloween and we hope that you’re just as excited as we are. If you have a family tradition that you do in the fall, please share it with us below.
