Infographic: Talk Like a Pirate Day

Pirate festivals may be over and done with, but worry not, because September 19th is Talk Like a Pirate Day! This national day has been celebrated across the country since 2002. It all started with a group of friends playing racquetball one fateful day in 1995. One of them unintentionally shouted a piratey, “Arrr!” during an intense game and they all spontaneously decided finished the game shouting out other fun pirate expressions and phrases. They decided to talk like a pirate every year since then. After years of doing this amongst themselves, they finally reached out to Pulitzer Prize winning columnist, Dave Barry to help them bring awareness to their fun little holiday. Barry was convinced that this national day was the perfect topic for his next article and once his nationally syndicated column hit the stands, the rest was history.

So be sure to join the rest of the country on the 19th to celebrate National Talk Like a Pirate Day. Some people like to go all out and dress like a pirate as well, but you can get away by just talking like one for the day. If you’re not sure quite how to talk like a pirate, I put together this infographic to get you started!
