Star Wars Fan Theories We Love

star-wars-fan-theoriesA few days ago, the trailer for Star Wars: The Last Jedi was finally released. The amazing trailer and the fact that Star Wars Day is coming up on May 4th got me thinking about what we have in store for us in December when the movie is slated to be released. So while deep diving through the interwebs, I came across some fun Star Wars fan theories that I thought were pretty interesting so I wanted to share with you some of my favorites. WARNING! The following may contain SPOILERS!

Rey is a Kenobi

Many of us are left wondering about who Rey really is by the end of The Force Awakens. Some think she might be Luke Skywalker’s daughter, which I think is a little too easy so I’m doubting that one. Some think she’s Han Solo’s daughter, which seems a little too farfetched for me. And then there’s the theory that Rey is actually Obi Wan Kenobi’s granddaughter. Some of the evidence for this theory are the fact that Obi Wan and Rey are the only non villains with British accents, their similar costumes, the fact that Rey received Luke’s lightsaber, but that was the lightsaber that Obi Wan was in possession of and gave to Luke. What won me over to this theory was the fact that both Ewan McGregor and Alec Guinness’s voices are heard in that stranger flashback Rey had when she found the lightsaber. You can read more about this theory from Ben Ostrower here.

Kylo Ren is Undercover for the Light Side

This theory came from tumblr user, murphycooper’s dad. He thinks that Kylo Ren joined the dark side so that he can help defeat Snoke. Evidence for this includes the fact that he told Han that he feels conflicted and torn apart. Kylo killed his own father as a sacrifice to fully become a Sith and literally asked Han to help him, so Han’s death will not be for nothing. Kylo also wanted to become Rey’s teacher, possibly intending to have the light and dark forces join in order to defeat Snoke. Kylo, talking to Darth Vader’s helmet, mentioned that he wanted to finish what Vader started, but he might have been referring to “the chosen one” being the Jedi to bring balance to the force. Murphycooper also mentions that it just makes sense that the son of Han Solo and Princess Leia, and nephew of Luke Skywalker, would only turn to the dark side for this reason.

Luke’s Role in The Last Jedi

As mentioned, the trailer for The Last Jedi was just released a few days ago and everyone’s analyzing it to no end. In the trailer, Luke says that “it’s time for the Jedi to end,” prompting some fans to think Luke has or will be joining the dark side. Then there are others who think Luke will be looking into using a “grey” force, by balancing both the light and the dark. However, Joe Skrebels over on IGN has a different theory altogether. He thinks Luke wants the Jedi to end so that the Balance itself will be ended. All conflict arose out of the Jedi and the Sith clashing with each other. Maybe by ending the Jedi, Luke believes a better peace could be had by all.

E.T. Is a Jedi

So this theory has nothing to do with The Last Jedi, but it was the most fun theory I came across so I definitely wanted to include it. We all saw in the E.T. film that he recognized the trick-or-treater in the Yoda costume as “home.” This was a fun little Easter egg at the time but nothing came of it. I’m sure the theory actually got started when E.T.’s alien friends later showed up in 1999’s The Phantom Menace. H. Perry Horton from Film School Rejects gave this theory life by pointing out more evidence. Looking at the fact that the directors of each movie, George Lucas and Steven Spielberg, are close friends, it would make sense that they consulted each other about their movies. E.T.’s species obviously exist in the Star Wars universe, so what being could possibly be able to do the things that E.T. did, like levitating balls, bringing a flower back to life, and making Elliot’s bike fly? And the answer is, of course, a Jedi.

So there are my favorite Stars Wars theories for you. Do you have any that you’d like to add? Feel free to comment down below with your favorites!
