Questions to Ask Kids While Quarantined

I’m on my second week of social distancing now. I hope everyone’s doing okay and staying safe! I’m working from home and both my kids are home from school as well. It’s a new normal to adjust to. I can tell that my kids are appreciative of seeing my husband and me more and also not having to go to school. But I’m also running out of things to do to keep them entertained. So I figured this would be a good time to come up with activities and things to do while self-quarantined with your kids. I will be calling this series…

Self-Quarantining with Kids

The first activity this week is thoughtful questions to ask your child (or children). I do talk to my kids a lot throughout the day. But I have to admit, I don’t usually go beyond talking to them about what we’re doing that day or week or asking them things like their favorite color or what they want to wear that day. So I came up with some more thought-provoking questions to ask them. I’m also going to write their answers down somewhere, maybe record them, so they can read/see them later. Or maybe I’ll ask them these same questions in a few years or every year and see how their answers change. Also, this doesn’t have to be just your kids. Maybe ask your partner, parents, or friends. I think it’d be nice to get to know your loved ones a little more!

And just for fun, I’m including my 5 (almost 6)-year-old daughter’s answers below. From her answers, you can see that she didn’t totally understand all of the questions but I thought that made it funnier.

1. What do you like most about yourself?
I like my hair and I like my toys.
2. What would say has been the best day of your life so far?
Wednesdays – because it’s share day and I get to share all my toys at school.
3. What do you think our dog is thinking about right now?
He always just thinks about food.
4. What things can I do to be a better mommy (or daddy)?
Cook more often because daddy always cooks. And be on your phone less.
5. If you could pick another name for yourself, what would you pick?
Strawberry ’cause my favorite foods are strawberry.
6. What do you want to be when you grow up?
A YouTuber ’cause I will get to make fun stuff!
7. What things can you do to make the world a better place?
I can share.
8. If you could have any superpower, what would you pick and why?
I want ice powers like Elsa and fire powers like Sailor Mars because it will be so fun!
9. What makes you a good friend?
Helping people. Like if they’re hurt, I help them up and take them to the nurse. And I play with them.
10. If you had a million dollars to buy anything in the world right now, what would you buy?
I would buy Pokemon because there’s Eevee and Pikachu and other Pokemon and I just love Pokemon!
