Work-Appropriate Costume Ideas for Halloween

Each year, it’s a challenge to find a cool Halloween costume that you can wear to the office. You want to stand out, but in a good way! Not in a way that will land you a meeting with the HR department. Some of us are fortunate enough to work at a place that has a loose dress code. Most of us, however, have to make sure that we don’t violate any rules. Lucky for you, I’ve got some great work-appropriate costumes that you can wear this Halloween. Here are my top picks for men and women! I’ll also share sprinkle in some tips to keep you out of trouble at the office.

Tip: Wear something you can move in and something that you can still answer calls in. Avoid masks, which can get in the way when speaking to a colleague or customer.

Tip: Stick with sophisticated rather than sexy. You can show some skin after hours. This goes for both men and women!

Tip: Funny is fine, just make sure it’s not inappropriate or racially insensitive. That also means staying away from controversial figures. I know you want to poke fun at Trump, but save it for the weekend.

Tip: A kigurumi is the closest you’ll get to wearing pajamas at work.

Tip: Don’t go full-on gore, unless explicitly asked. A gaping wound, even if it’s fake, can be extremely distracting.

Tip: As a general rule, make sure your costume follows your work’s dress code. Watch for hem lengths and sleeve rules.

There are lots of other costume ideas that I’d love to share, but I’ll keep this list short. However, you can find plenty more costumes that you can wear to work and after work on our website! What do you plan on dressing up as this year? Let us know by leaving a comment!
