What to Wear: Mardi Gras Masquerade Costumes
|In case you couldn’t already tell, we are all about Mardi Gras this month and we’ve decided to keep the fun going with more costume ideas! Inspired by our previous post of combining our costumes and masks to create a one-of-a-kind ensemble (here), we’ve come up with a whole new set of costume ideas with a Carnival spin. You’ll notice that we’ve taken popular Mardi Gras themes to create these looks and we hope that you’ll find some great new ideas for creating a costume of your own.
Look #1
This first look is inspired by the post-Halloween celebration, Dia de los Muertos, which is traditionally celebrated by Mexico and other parts of Latin America. Being that Carnival is also celebrated in certain parts of Latin America, it seemed fitting that we should mesh the cultures to create a unique look. We’ve taken a costume reminiscent of La Calavera Catrina and partnered it with this hand painted mask for an interesting take on masquerade.
Look #2
Royal figures are a very big part of Mardi Gras. That is to say, people love making fun of officials during Mardi Gras in the form of political satire. With this costume, we’ve combined a king card costume with a jester mask because as we all know, they are often one and the same.
Look #3
Speaking of jesters, we’ve put together the perfect outfit for Mardi Gras. Since bodysuits are so popular, we chose this costume which comes with an adorable mini hat. We then paired it with a very stylish laser-cut mask with red glitter details to match perfectly with the costume. To complete the look, we added a red and black wig which reminds us of Harley Quinn making this one super sexy outfit!
Look #4
Lastly, as you might have noticed, many of the Krewes in NOLA are inspired by figures in Greek and Roman mythology. We’ve done the same in creating this look by coordinating the perfect pieces to achieve the look of an ancient god. As they say, when in Rome!
