Movie Mondays: April 2016

Happy April, everyone! We hope you had a great Easter and a great April Fool’s Day! It’s the beginning of the month once again so it’s time to plan your movie watching schedule so let us help you out with just a few suggestions.

The Jungle Book

The Jungle Book

Following the heels of the success of the live-action Cinderella movie, Disney has revived another beloved classic which is set to release on April 15th. From reading plot summaries, it sounds like the new film is going to follow pretty closely to the 1967 animated version. With Mowgli being raised by a pack of wolves and having to leave after his life is threatened by Shere Khan, the Bengal tiger. With the help of Baloo and Bagheera, Mowgli reluctantly makes his way out of the jungle in search of humans who can protect him. The trailer is full of nostalgia with many familiar characters and a modern remake of the famous Bear Necessities song. It’s definitely a film that you can take the kids to see for the whole family to enjoy.

The Huntsman: Winter’s War

The Huntsman Winter's War

Chris Hemsworth and Charlize Theron take up their roles from Snow White and the Huntsman for this prequel/sequel. Winter’s War, out on April 22nd, starts from the beginning, telling the story of Queen Revenna’s sister, Freya, the Ice Queen, raising an army of Huntsman. However, she is upset to find that two of her best, Eric and Sara, have fallen in love, her one and only rule for her legion of Hunstman. After the events of Snow White and the Huntsman, Freya uses the power of the Magic Mirror to bring the evil queen, Revenna back to life and, together, they threaten the land with darker and more powerful magic. From the looks of it, they will have plenty of the vivid imagery just like the last film including amazing costuming, CGI, and sets.

Hardcore Henry

Hardcore Henry

Hardcore Henry I is an action-packed science fiction picture in theaters on April 8th. This first person movie is filmed from the point of view of the main character, Henry, similar to an RPG video game, giving the audience the sense that they are in Henry’s shoes. Henry is brought back to life by his wife, Estelle, as a type of part cyborg hybrid with enhanced abilities and no memory of his past. When Estelle is kidnapped, the audience is taken on the journey to save her and discover the truth about Henry’s past. This fast-paced movie is definitely intriguing and we’re definitely excited to see it upon its release.

Nina

Nina

Nina Simone was a beautiful and talented singer and song writer during the 50s and 60s. She sang and wrote a mix of jazz, blues, and folk music. She was also known for being a prominent Civil Rights activist in the 60s and 70s and she began to regularly incorporate her political views into her songwriting. Nina, a film about her rise to fame, is set to be released in theaters on April 22nd. Much controversy surrounded the casting of actress Zoe Saldana, who has Haitian and Lebanese roots. However, many, us included, are curious to see how the film tells the story of Nina Simone’s amazing life.

The Boss

The Boss

On April 8th, hilarious actress, Melissa McCarthy stars in The Boss as the richest woman in the country who loses everything when she’s sent to prison for insider trading. Upon her release, the film follows her comical struggle to win back America’s heart and her wealth with the help of her old assistant, played by Kristen Bell. The lovely Melissa McCarthy has been on a great comedic roll with not only her sitcom, Mike and Molly, but also films like Bridesmaids, The Heat, and Spy, so we’re excited to see her in The Boss.

Now, I know a lot of you are probably still gossiping about Batman v. Superman, but which of these movies are you most excited to see this month?

Lisa

Lisa

I'm a mother of two and constantly searching for ways to have adventures and create memories as a new family. I love all things Disney, I'm obsessed with family costumes, and I will find any excuse to dress up and celebrate.

Lisa plays the role of the Fairy Godmother on the Pure Costumes team.
