Introducing Elena of Avalor

Disney is gearing up to debut their newest princess and animated series, Elena of Avalor. We, along with many other Disney fans, are excited about this newest addition, as Elena will be bringing about much sought-after diversity among the Disney Princess lineup. Though Elena is technically not considered Latina, as Avalor is a mythical kingdom, fans are excited about Elena bringing about cultural awareness. Disney has stated that Avalor is heavily inspired by Latin and Hispanic culture, including traditions, customs, foods, and music.

The new series is a spin-off from another popular Disney show, Sofia the First. Elena, after being set free from Sofia’s amulet that she had been trapped in, saves her kingdom from an evil sorceress and must now learn how to rule as crown princess. Being only 16-years-old, Elena’s Grand Counsel, composed of her grandparents, older cousin, and friend, Naomi, will help her along the way to guide her and to teach her to rule with kindness, thoughtfulness, and resilience.

Anxious fans will be delighted to hear that the first episode of Elena of Avalor will be premiering on the Disney Channel on July 22nd at 7 p.m. ET, though Disney has long been promoting this highly-anticipated new princess for some time now. Merchandise for Elena of Avalor is already available for excited fans to purchase as they patiently wait for the premiere of the show. Sofia the First will also be airing Elena’s back-story this fall on a special episode titled Elena and the Secret of Avalor.
