7 Things That Should Happen in Game of Thrones Season 6

It’s been a long wait, but in a few more days, Game of Thrones fans will be rewarded for our patience (impatience?). Whether you’re a book reader or a TV show lover or both, I am sure you have your own expectations of what you want to see in season 6. I can’t speak for everyone else, but as a fan of both book and TV show series, I know that there are things that should happen in Game of Thrones season 6; things that will keep the audience captivated and not just because “it’s Game of Thrones and something that will make me sit up on the couch may happen eventually”. If this season of Game of Thrones will smash records yet again – with people truly happy – then these 7 things should happen in the upcoming season.

WARNING: Some spoilers from the published books.

Game of Thrones Season 6
1. No spoilers

It seems stupid to start the list with “no spoilers” when I just wrote “spoilers from the books”, but there is no going around the spoiler from the books thing. What I mean by “no spoilers”, however, is that the show SHOULD NOT include details from the upcoming books, which we hope will be published while we’re not yet senile. It may not seem fair to say it, but it’s one thing to read spoilers about the show on the Internet but it’s a totally different story to watch details from books, which are still to come – even if those details can make the show’s popularity skyrocket.

2. More airtime for Bran

Yes, I know. Many viewers don’t like Bran, or worse, couldn’t care less about him. However, Bran plays a central part in the whole story. While he has been in the fringes from season 1 to 5 (except that part where he got crippled), his exact role is yet to be revealed. Bits about his visions and the three-eyed crow have been shown here and there, but they should give Bran more exposure. After all, he is the only Stark sibling who hasn’t had a horrible time – well, in comparison to what the others have gone through.

No spoilers from the book, but definitely more airtime.

3. Arya back in action

Everyone loves Arya. I’ve never heard anyone say they disliked Arya, and if some did, they probably would get violent reactions from their Arya-loving friends. Arya in Braavos is an essential part of her storyline. She gets to meet (again) and train under “Jaqen H’ghar”. But she can’t stay there this season. She needs to pick up all the lessons she’s learned, get the heck away from Braavos, and start kicking some butt once again. After all, why did we all fall in love with Arya in the first place? I know it’s not because she was this docile little girl.

4. Cersei back on top

If everyone loves Arya, it’s quite the opposite with Cersei. Okay, she has her own following. Even some of those who (generally) hate her can’t help but admire and feel pity for her at times (yes, I am one of them).

Cersei has done more than her share of horrible things, and while her walk of shame made me feel for her, I still think she deserves more punishment for what she has done – and what she is going to do. That’s what I mean by saying that in the next season, Cersei should be back on top – or least on her way up. We need to see her do more despicable things, get away with them, and eventually get punished again. Also, Cersei is a symbol of King’s Landing. Until the Lannisters are crushed and removed – which isn’t going to happen any time soon – then she should be given her power once again. If they don’t, then who are we going to hate with such passion? And what is Jaime to do?

5. Jon Snow as a White Walker

Hate me now?

The odds are against me here as people who are more experienced in analyzing trailers, posters, and patterns have declared that Jon Snow is more likely to be alive and well in the next season. A human Jon Snow, that is. To be honest, I would like that, too, but wouldn’t it be more interesting to see Jon Snow as a White Walker? One might say that going the “Jon Snow is going to be a White Walker” route is the easy way, but think about it. He has gone through a lot of role transformations – from bastard son to Brother of the Night’s Watch (to Lord Commander) to wildling. Why not a White Walker this time? Maybe fight and take the place of the Night’s King?

The Night’s King’s background story is full of interesting tidbits – more interesting than many other characters whom we have seen in the previous seasons – like being a former Lord Commander of the Night’s Watch. Jon Snow going down this path should be one heck of a twist, don’t you think?

Watch out, the next point is the book spoiler!

6. Lady Stoneheart, show up!

Book readers have been waiting for her to show up ever since the Red Wedding. In the books, Catelyn Stark returns as a vengeful living corpse. She seeks to kill everyone who has betrayed them – even those who she only thought betrayed them. As Lady Stoneheart, Catelyn Stark has also changed physically, having lost all of Catelyn Stark’s beauty and grace. She must show up. We’ve been waiting long enough, and those who don’t know about her will find her character fascinating for sure.

7. Dragons and more dragons

While one of the most impressive scenes last season involved dragons, we didn’t really see much of them, did we? Seeing that the fate of Daenerys (and Drogon) lies in the hands of the khalasar of Khal Jhaqo (who declared himself khal when Drogo got sick), I am not sure how the showrunners are going to handle the dragons this season. I do know, though, that we should see more of them. But it could just be my bias showing.

So these are the 7 things I think should happen in season 6. Do you think they will happen or not? What do you think should happen in this season of Game of Thrones?
