2016 Pride Month Celebrations in California

June has been designated as LGBT Pride month to commemorate the Stonewall Riots in 1969 and the subsequent fight for equal rights for the gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender community. If you’re down with the LGBT community, then you’re probably prepping for you’re the upcoming PRIDE festivities. Luckily, California has a pretty supportive community and some of the biggest celebrations in the country. If you’re looking for a PRIDE parade to attend in your area, we’ve put together this list to make it easy for you to find an event so you can show your support!

Long Beach PRIDE (May 21-22)

The city of Long Beach is kicking off the festivities early with a two-day extravaganza featuring musical acts, arts, and a parade. To be held along Shoreline Dr, this event will have five dance areas with plenty of DJs and dancers along with Neon Trees rocking the main stage. There will also be a mass wedding ceremony right before the parade.

Sacramento Pride (June 4)

The state capitol will host a parade and festival with approximately 13,000 attendees expected to attend. The festival will feature a dance pavilion, kid’s zone, art showcase, and plenty of street vendors.

LA Pride Music Festival & Parade (June 11-12)

This weekend festival and parade will be a star-studded event. Voted as one of the top 100 events in Southern California, this will be one of the biggest Pride events in California. Musical acts including Carly Rae Jepson, Krewella, and Charli XCX will be headlining the show. The parade will be held in West Hollywood and where people will march along Santa Monica Blvd.

OC Pride Week (June 19-25)

This weeklong celebration will include a parade, musical festival, and pageant. The main stage headliner will be country singer-songwriter, Steve Grand. As the biggest Pride event in the OC, this is one event that you won’t want to miss.

San Francisco Pride (June 25-26)

One of the largest LGBT communities probably in the whole country, San Francisco will host their Pride celebration on the last weekend of the month. Not only will the event focus on strengthening the LGBT community, it will also address issues of racial and economic injustice. Though the musical guests have yet to be announced, you can count on this event to be one of the most eye-opening experiences of your life.
