What to Wear: Renaissance Faire Fantasy Costumes

Welcome to another edition of What to Wear Wednesday! Since we’re covering the Renaissance Faire this month, I thought it’d be fun to take a look into different choices for fantasy costumes. Most people who attend the Renaissance Faire choose to dress up in garb to join in on the fun atmosphere. Many dress as royalty, wenches, maids, and knights, and then others like to take it a step further and dress as mythical creatures from medieval folklore. I’ve rounded up a few fun costume ideas inspired by figures of lore that are sure to set you apart from the rest.

Enchanting Faun

Polyvore - Enchanting Faun

This Enchanting Faun look was pulled together from several pieces from our vast selection. As you may know, a faun is a creature that is half human and half goat. In order to create a faun look, the focal point of the costume is the ram horns. Next, I added a top from our Native Hippie Adult Costume Kit because it’s the perfect shade of brown to complement the skirt of the Medieval Rogue Warrior costume. Finally, I completed the look with a pair of leg warmers that give off the look of hooves. Don’t forget to add some face makeup so that you’ll be a more convincing faun.

Mystical Dragon

Polyvore - Mystical Dragon
Another mythical creature that’s popular in Medieval Folklore is the vicious flying dragon. To get this look, I selected Rebel Monster costume for its dragon-like red and black color scheme. To give the dragon the ability of flight, I then paired it with the Maleficent Wings to maintain a dark look. Last, I added a pair of fierce gladiator sandals to complete the costume. Put together, this outfit is the perfect combination of dark, mysterious, and powerful.

Magical Unicorn

Polyvore - Magical UnicornIt you’re looking for a lighter look, you can opt to go to the faire dressed as a magical unicorn. The Fantasy Unicorn costume is the perfect amount of whimsical and cute and includes a luscious rainbow tutu dress and also a rainbow horn headband. Complete the look with the Rainbow Dash Tail accessory and a pink wig and you’ve got yourself a magic look that’s perfect.

Warrior Elf

Polyvore - Warrior ElfNext, I decided to put together an elf costume. Elf costumes at the Renaissance Faire have been frequently spotted in recent years, especially with the popularity of J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings books and their successful movie counterparts. When it comes to elf costumes, you can go many ways. You can be an elven princess, a fairy elf, or even a wench elf. I decided that this elf should be fierce so I’ve put together a warrior elf costume. I started with the Deadly Huntress costume and then added the Elf Princess Kit. Of course our warrior will need a weapon so I completed the outfit with a bow and arrow set. Now you’re ready to battle whatever enemies come your way!

Peacock Pixie

Polyvore - Peacock PixieThe last costume I have for you is one of the most popular fantasy ideas at the Renaissance Faire. It’s the beautiful fairy costume. Fairies or pixies come in all different shapes, sizes, and colors. There are so many fairy costumes to choose from but I decided to pick the Peacock Fairy costume because of its gorgeous blue and purple gown and intricate lace wings. In order to add some flair to the costume, I threw in a purple floral headband and a pair of delicate purple sandals.

I hope I was able to give you some fun inspiration for your next Renaissance festival! If you have any other great fantasy character costume ideas, let us know in the comments below. Don’t forget to check out the rest of our Renaissance costumes on our website!
