Sunday Funday: Carnival Season in SoCal

The other day, we shared with you some of the most popular places that celebrate Carnival season around the world (read about it here). Living in SoCal, some of those cities seem like a world away. However, in the spirit of Carnival season, we wanted to share with our local followers a few fun events that are right in our neighborhood. That’s right! You don’t have to travel over land and sea to have a fun and exciting experience. Just head over to these local hot spots for some Carnival fun and let the good times roll.

Venice Beach Mardi Gras Parade
At the famous Venice Beach boardwalk, there will be a Mardi Gras parade which will be held on February 14. Venice Beach is known for being laid back, yet highly entertaining with artists and street performers at every corner. You bet with a celebration like this in a city like Venice that this will be one colorful celebration! The festivities begin at noon so if you would like to spend the day at the beach and catch some fabulous entertainment, then you won’t want to miss it. More info can be found on their Facebook page (here).

Long Beach Carnevale

This annual event returns once again. In its efforts to recreate the Venice Carnevale experience, the boardwalk will be filled guests who show off their artistic expressions in elaborate masquerade masks and costumes. Far from the Mardi Gras experience of beads and jazz, this event will surely have a romantic elegance about it. In addition to the extraordinary display of costuming, there will also be several musical guests, photography sessions, and hair and make-up by the team at the Marinello beauty school. This event will be an all day event on February 28 with festivities starting at 10:30 in the morning. Get more info on their website (here).

Karneval at The Phoenix Club
For those in the OC, The Phoenix Club in Anaheim will be hosting several Karneval-themed events this month and next. As a stronghold for German culture in Southern California, this venue hosts a variety of German-themed events all throughout the year and since Carnival season is observed in Germany, you better believe that they will be pulling out all the stops. Each week will feature a special theme including a pirate night, a kid friendly “Wunderland” theme, and an adults-only sailor theme. Find out more about their themed events on their website (here).
