7 Fun Runs You Need to Try

foot-race-1529149_960_720People love any reason to dress up. We’re in the business, so we would know. It’s no wonder we’re seeing fun runs on the rise all throughout the country. These fun challenges usually consist of 5k courses with a specific theme and one of the great things that we noticed that a lot of the themes are based around costumes! That’s why today, we wanted to share with you 7 fun runs you need to try in your lifetime. (Because health, charity, and costumes!)

  1. Turkey Trot. Thanksgiving-themed marathons are pretty popular throughout the States. A turkey trot is basically a fun run where people run the course dressed as a turkey! It’s a great way to burn off the extra holiday calories and raise money for local charities.
  2. Santa Run. Santa Runs are like the Christmas version of the Turkey Trot. People get dress up in Santa suits and elf costumes for the run. Christmas is the season of giving which makes Santa Runs such a fun way to raise money for those in need.
  3. Disney Marathon. The Disney Resorts, (Disneyland and Disney World), host several themed marathon runs and 5ks throughout the year based off the different franchises they own. Themes include Disney Princesses, The Avengers, and Star Wars. The events are usually held throughout the entire weekend and include health expos, entertainment, and commemorative merch for finishers.
  4. Zombie Run. If you’re a horror fan, the Zombie Run is for you. Most of these events involve two sets of participants – runners and zombies. You can sign up to be either or! Runners usually wear a flag football belt and their goal is to finish the race with as many of their flags as they can. Runners are eliminated once all their flags are gone. On the other hand, zombies must chase after runners with the goal of capturing their flags.
  5. Color Run. You go in wearing white and finish the course as a rainbow. This fun 5k series features a course where runners are doused with in colorful paint. Great music blasts the speakers as you make your way through the course making it feel like a wild party!
  6. Mustache Dache. November is also Men’s Health Month with a focus on raising awareness for prostate and testicular cancer, mental health, and physical inactivity. The symbol for this cause is moustaches, (kind of in the way the pink ribbon represents breast cancer awareness), thus giving the month its own nickname, Movember. With the rise of this trend, supporters have organized runs to help raise awareness and funding to help educate and prevent disease including fun runs where participants wear goofy moustaches and costumes while running the course.
  7. Superhero Run. Last but not least, there are superhero runs. I mean, if you’re going to save lives while running, you might as well look the part. You can run the course dressed as your favorite superhero and get the satisfaction of knowing that you’ve changed someone’s life for the better.

There are so many other types of fun runs that we didn’t mention, but are worth checking out. The point is to get out there and have some fun for a good cause! Do you do fun runs in your home town? If so, tell us about it in the comments!

I'm a mother of two and constantly searching for ways to have adventures and create memories as a new family. I love all things Disney, I'm obsessed with family costumes, and I will find any excuse to dress up and celebrate.

Lisa plays the role of the Fairy Godmother on the Pure Costumes team.
